Onancock

We arrived at Onancock Creek on Saturday and anchored out. The channel into Onancock winds its way through sandbars and it is very easy to tell where there is water or not.  It's so nice to be able to read the water.  On Sunday we docked at the Onancock Town Wharf.  Onancock is a quaint little town where the townspeople are very friendly and outgoing.

Ker Place is a beautifully restored federal style mansion built in 1799. Alas it was not open for tours on Sunday.

The grounds included a well maintained herb garden where you are welcome to cut any herbs you might need to spice up your dinner.      I might be going back today to get some herbs and maybe pick up some eclairs.
Most of the stores and restaurants are closed on Sunday & Monday so we took a walk through the town and admired all the well maintained turn of the century houses.

There is an old time movie theater showing current films and also a local bakery that makes the best donuts and twists.  Carmel pecan walnut and the cream cheese filled were excellent.  I heard the chocolate eclairs were really good but was not offered a sample! Lots of victorian homes and friendly people.  More people just stopped by to say hi than anywhere we have been before.  Debbie the dockmaster was very helpful too.  Nice facility, mostly all new with free washer and dryer and nice restrooms. We are leaving today for Tangier Island and then on to Crisfield.
