Green Turtle Bay Resort 9/30-10/8

We arrived at Green Turtle a day earlier than expected and did not have a reservation so we anchored for the evening in a bay just north of Green Turtle.  The anchorage turned out to be really nice and we were able to dinghy over to the nearby boat ramp for Abby's walks.  Saturday morning we checked into Green Turtle and were given a large slip at the end of Pier 6 in front of a large green houseboat.  These are not transient slips and all of the slip holders were present and came over to help us tie up and welcome us to Green Turtle.  We borrowed the courtesy van and did some shopping in town at the local grocery store.  Nothing fancy but we will be going to Paducah on Monday to hit Walmart and Kroger so we were fine.  When we were coming near Green Turtle yesterday we followed "Getting Looped" out of the locks and the captain had requested to go first as he was very low on fuel and wanted to get to the fuel dock.  We followed him up the channel but he turned early into Green Turtle (which has a weird entrance and ran aground.) I called him on the radio and asked if he needed help and he did.  We dropped the dinghy and went over and met Mike.  I took the dinghy and pushed the bow around and then once we were free pushed the boat back out into the channel.  I think Mike didn't have much confidence as he had already called TowBoatUS and since they were busy the marina sent out a pontoon boat.  Mike's boat was already off and we said goodbye and he thanked me for getting him off.

This is the night lighting going down the very long dock to shore.  All covered slips

While I was gone to Louisville Debbie went to the Yacht Club for dinner

That night while we were watching TV the phone rang and it was Mike thanking us for getting him off and inviting us to join he and Jonell for dinner the following night at the Thirsty Turtle. We accepted and enjoyed cocktails on Getting Looped and dinner out.  Mike was very impressed with how I got him off so easily and wanted to know if I had done this before.  Well as a matter of fact I had done it in Georgian Bay and it was easy.

Monday Debbie and I got picked up by Enterprise and did Walmart and Kroger in Paducah.  The next day I went off to Louisville to do a show for the next three days.  It was good to see all of the work buddies and we had a good show.  Two nice dinners out and caught up with what's new at Quadco.  After the show finished on Thursday we packed everything up and I headed to Total Wine to stock up. Four cases of wine and booze later it was back to Green Turtle about a three hour drive and life back to normal.  Debbie and I went for dinner at Patti's on Friday night.  Its a restaurant with period costumes from the 1800s and their specialty is a 2" thick pork chop and their desserts.  We tried both and they were very good.
We had planned to leave on Saturday but after a day of reupholstering and lots more work to do we decided to stay until Monday.  The slip we were in was already taken so we ended up moving over near the fuel and transient docks.  I would guess there were 20 or more loopers here and lots of activity. We had lunch on Saturday at Dockside and finished assembling my new bike.  The old one died and was not worth fixing.  Living on the bow rail in salt is a hard environment for any bike.
Sunday was the day to install a new VHF on the flybridge as the old Icom would receive but not transmit.  I bought a New Horizon 1700 VHF and finished installing it and the new panel overlay for that space which is shared with the radar.  I had to remove both the radar and the old radio and then do the cutouts for the radar and the new radio.  It rained most of the day and I had to wait until it stopped in the afternoon to use the router to cut out the Plexiglas panels.  Anyways I was successful and the project was completed in time for cocktails. Debbie and I also changed out a bilge pump float switch and since I don't fit in the hole Debbie was appointed.
Somebody had to get in there!

And a good job she did

  1. Debbie fits in there better than Dennis did.
I wanted to let ya’ll know, we are leaving St Johns Marina and heading to Ft Pierce, Florida. I got a new job down there. I’ll be ready for work on the 17th, with Dennis , the cat and the boat to follow at the end of the month. Right now it looks like we will have a slip at the Ft Pierce City Marina. We will let you know if anything changes. One step closer to the Bahamas!
