Menominee to Sheboygan 9/13/17

We left Menominee early to get a head start on the winds which might have picked up in the afternoon.  There are two bridges that open on the hour and half hour in Sturgeon Bay and we were trying to make the 9:00 opening.  When we left there was some mist/fog but visibility was pretty good for about the first 5 miles and then it really closed in.  We were reduced to about 50 yards for the rest of the trip to Sturgeon Bay and used the two I Pads, chartplotter and radar to find our way.  This all worked so well that we almost ran over the red/white entrance marker to Sturgeon Bay and then worked our way up the channel until the stern of a huge freighter loomed out of the mist.  That elicited a holly crap out of me but we were right in the middle of the channel and didn't hit anything (not even close!!).  The fog lifted as we approached the bridges and the bridge opened for us right on schedule.

Pretty poor visibility

The second bridge with the Coast Guard cutter Mobile Bay which also works as an Ice breaker in the winter months
Coast Guard cutter Mobile Bay is pictured above with the ATON barge attached which allows her to work at maintaining Aids to Navigation (ATON) when she is not breaking ice in the winter months.

Both Bridges open at the same time for commercial traffic but only one at a time for recreational traffic

A nice park and beach area in Sheboygan

Debbie found this as she was walking Abby.  When they dredged for the harbor here in 1990, they discovered the remains of the Lottie Cooper, a lumber schooner that was lost in a storm in 1894.

Sheboygan was a nice stop but I liked Menominee/ Marionette better
