Milwaukee to Waukegan 9/15/17

We left Milwaukee on another beautiful day.  For all those who say you need to be off of Lake Michigan by Labor Day I guess this year was the exception.  We truly have been lucky with the weather for a lake that can be very rough on the wrong days.
We traveled down the lake to Waukegan which used to be a booming town and had the headquarters of Johnson outboards here until they went bankrupt and were purchased by Bombardier and then the plant was closed.  Most of the former plant has been demolished and is now a SuperFund clean up site.  I guess making outboard motors was not good for the environment!!  We stayed at the Waukegan Yacht club and were greeted by Mike and Bridget on their boat Fluthered. Bridget is Irish is she told us "Fluthered" is Irish slang for being inebriated.  They told us that no one ever collects the fees here and we were free to stay.  We had a drink at the club and spoke with some of the members there who told us of better times in this town.  Supposedly the population has gone from 20% Hispanic to 80% Hispanic over the past years and whole towns have moved here from Mexico.  There was an Hispanic Festival going on in the park next to the club and we walked over to see if we could find dinner and watch the entertainment.  They had a bandstand set up with all kinds of entertainers and music, but the food was no different than any normal fair so we ate at the local Brat stand and had ice cream for dessert.

The dock was fine but there was a rolling swell all night that rocked u to sleep.  Only problem was it didn't stop.
