Peterborough to Lakefield 7/29/17

Peterborough has a fantastic Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and Debbie, Angie and Abby went over early and scoped it out.  We had a nice breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs and english muffins with peameal bacon and then off shopping at the farmers market.  Angie and Debbie should have done some shopping on the earlier visit as when we arrived around 10:30 the market was very busy and some things had already sold out.  I have always liked Ontario peaches and find them to be better than peaches from anywhere else I have tried.  They are perfect, sweet not mealy and taste great. We got a basket of those, some butter tarts, fresh veggies and real raspberries that needed to be eaten right away they were so ripe and sweet.  They had apricots, beans, new potatoes, and supposedly the best bagels, but alas they were sold out and we couldn't get any.  After the market we made a quick trip to the grocery store for dairy and then headed off to the lift lock.  We have been fortunate this year that we have not had to wait for any locks and pretty much have sailed right in and through the locks.

The lineup for Burleigh Falls Lock

The lift lock is always interesting and unique.  It was a beautiful day and lots of tourists were lining the banks watching all the boats pass through the locks.  You kind of feel like the monkeys in the zoo, but it's still fun. After the lift lock there is a string of locks bringing you up past Trent University and to Lakefield.  There was a nice spot off of the blue line under a cedar tree that looked too inviting to pass by, so we docked for the night and the crew went for a walk off into town.  They found an English pub that made a Thai chicken pot pie and also a beef and Stilton pie, so they bought two of each and with a quick salad we had dinner on the picnic table in the shade.  No cooking required.  Another episode of Homeland and then off to bed
