Talbot Lock to Chief's Island 8/2/17

We caught the first downbound lock in the morning at Talbot and had thoughts of getting into Lake Simcoe and spending the night in an anchorage after we passed through Orillia. This part of the trip crosses Lake Simcoe which is 20 miles long and fortunately for us was calm on the day we crossed.  We stopped in Orillia for a pump out and to fill up with water at the Star Port in Orillia.  Great dock hands and they took care of all of our needs in short order. When we went to leave we had to do a 180 to head back west in the channel.  Its very narrow here and the current runs through here at a pretty good pace.  When I went to back up to turn around there was a bass boat right on my stern and I didn't want to hit him but only had so much time before the current dragged me into a dock on the narrow channel leading to the boat houses.  We just made it but the two dock hands were already heading over to rescue us.  We got lucky and were able to complete our 180 without hitting anything. Phew!
Admiral Debbie and Captain Jim

Flock of Cormorants.  They decimate all the trees on whatever small island they inhabit.  Nasty Birds with not enough preditors

Another beautiful sunrise at Talbot Lock.

We had to hide in behind an island for a passing thunderstorm and had lunch while we waited for the storm to pass.  After it passed we found an anchorage at Chiefs Island and went swimming for the afternoon.  Dinner on board and another episode of Homeland, then off to bed
